The Sanskrit word «Navagraha» means «nine grah» or «nine powers» — «celestial bodies» or, in modern language, planets. In Vedic astrology Jyotish, seven visible and two shadow planets are mainly used, which are key in astrological calculations. These are the Sun, Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus, Saturn, and two «shadow» planets Rahu and Ketu.

The location of these nine signs, «heavenly bodies» at the moment of your birth, affects your karma, your desires and needs, successes and difficulties that you meet on the path of life. These influences are both positive and negative in their tendencies, affecting the life cycle.

Vedic Ceremony — Navagraha Homa is held for all nine grahas or planets in order to weaken, reduce their negative influences that their energies have on certain aspects of a person’s life, as well as awaken and strengthen their positive manifestations. At the same time, the ceremony contributes to the strengthening of positive potential and the disclosure of opportunities in personal evolution, which also depend on the energy of the nine heavenly bodies.

In the natal birth chart of each person, there are both well-placed planetary compositions or planetary Yogas, and not entirely successful ones. These provisions are very significant and bring special types of influences into a person’s life. These influences bring good luck or, conversely, suffering. But they always bring a state of evolutionary movement into human life. Depending on the strength of such influences, a person has a different fate.

The Vedic ceremony of Navagraha Homa allows you to turn to the grahas as a source of strength and create an intention to activate positive tendencies and pacify negative or malevolent manifestations. For this, the Vedic texts of the Rig Veda, the Yajur Veda and the Atharva Veda are used. In such a yajna, Vedic pandits, learned Brahmins, chant mantras and conduct a special fire ceremony — Homa, where offerings are made for all 9 grahas (planets).

For planets that are unfavorably located or have unsuccessful transits at the moment, the number of mantras uttered is many times greater than for auspicious planets. This allows you to create a kind of protective dam, kavacha or armor for a participant in such a yajna. This armor acts for a long time, as a protection at all levels of life, as a «body of mantras» is created. This state gives a person another chance to experience higher states of consciousness, awareness of his soul, light and joy in all manifestations of being.
